History

 

Cardiologist Section of the Republic of Srpska was established at the Founders Assembly on 22nd November, 2000 within the Society of Doctors of Medicine of the Republic of Srpska. All medical doctors, cardiologists, internists, pediatricians and other doctors of medicine who work in the field of cardiovascular pathology became members of the Section. Professor Milovan Milovanovic, Ph.D. was elected as the first president and Dusko Vulic, M.Sc. was elected as the secretary.

Since its foundation, the Cardiologist Section has taken part in all educational activities, organizing educational seminars and lectures in the field of cardiovascular medicine. The Section has established continuous cooperation with the Association of Cardiologists of Yugoslavia, as well as continuous talks about cooperation with the Association of Cardiologists from the BiH Federation, regarding the foundation of the joint Associaton for BiH.

Academic Professor Miodrag Ostojic, Ph.D., who greatly contributed to its development from the very beginning, was elected the first honorary member of the Cardiologists Section of the Republic of Srpska. In the course of its activities, the Cardiologists Section has taken an active part in the realization of the Program for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in the Republic of Srpska, participating together with the Foundation “Health and Heart” in all activities, especially in regular marking of the World Heart Day since 2000.

Considering the functions it had developed and the activities that had been implemented by that date, the Assembly of the Cardiologist Section made a decision to transform the Section into the Association of Cardiologists of the Republic of Srpska on 3rd October, 2002. Dr Aleksandar Lazarevic, assistant professor, was elected the first president and Dusko Vulic, M.Sc. was elected the secretary.

Members of the Association have taken part at congresses in Yugoslavia, Europe and round the world on regular basis, presenting our results in diagnostics and treatment of the cardiovascular disease.

Association has organized many educational seminars and lectures in the field of cardiovascular diseases in all regional centers in the Republic of Srpska. The Association took part in translating, publishing and implementing the European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention for 2003, in cooperation with the Foundation “Health and Heart”.

At the beginning of 2004, members of the Association took part in the Regional Meeting on the Implementation of European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and SCORE tables in Istanbul.

Since its foundation, 4 members were elected European cardiologist and other 4 members were elected fellows of the European Association of Cardiologists.
